I have compiled a list of 15 free online tools that will help you greatly as a tech. I’m sure that there are other good ones that I have left out so please feel free to post the ones that you like as well.
IPTools offers a wide variety of online networking tools. With this site you can look up IP address information, check spam databases, run pings, run traceroutes, lookup WHOIS information and much more.
BugMeNot allows you to find and share logins for sites that require you to register. This tool is great to use when you don’t want to have to go through the process of creating an account for a site when you just want to login once for something like a driver.
SpeedTest.net allows you to test your Internet connection speed. It’s great to use when you want to see if your ISP is holding up on their end of the bargain.
Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site that allows you to bookmark sites and view them from any computer. This site is great because not only can you bookmark sites and view them anywhere, you can also search through everyone’s bookmarks to find great tech articles.
Omnidrive is an online storage service that allows you to upload large files, access them from any computer, and share them with other people. They also offer the ability to edit your Office documents using Zoho without ever downloading them. You get 1GB free and the ability to upgrade to 1 terabyte. This site is great for hosting your tech tools and accessing them from computers you are working on.
10 Minute Mail allows you to create temporary email addresses that expire after 10 minutes. It’s great to use for sites that require you to receive something through email but you don’t want to be bombarded with spam.
Free Password Generator
Free Password Generator generates very strong and unique passwords. Before you generate your passwords, you can predefine settings such has what type of symbols to use and the length you want it to be.
Trend Micro HouseCall is an online virus, spyware, and malware scanner that runs in your web browser. It’s very handy when you are working on a computer that doesn’t have antivirus software and you want to scan it without having to install one.
You Get Signal allows you to check which ports are open into your network. This is great tool to use when you are trying to patch holes in your firewall.
WhatIsThatFile.com
WhatIsThatFile.com allows you to identify unknown files on a computer. This tool is great for looking up files that you suspect might be possible viruses, trojans, or malware.
YouSendIt allows you to send large files to other people when the files are too large for your email. This tool is a great alternative to using FTP.
DLL-files.com has a huge library of downloadable dll files. Next time you get an error about a missing dll file, you can go here and download it.
Google Microsoft Search allows you to search specifically through Microsoft-related sites. This site is great for searching through Microsoft tech articles for a specific problem.
Zamzar is a file conversion tool that allows you to convert file types through their site. Currently they support over 60 file types. This is a great tool for converting files when you don’t have the appropriate application to do so.
Default Router Passwords Database allows you to search for router as well as other devices default passwords. This tool comes in very handy when you have to reset a device but can’t find the manual to look up the default password.

Zamar is a cool site when you can’t find a downloadable application to help you convert files but make sure you have your popup blocker on before navigating here. My first visit resulted in 3 popups that repeated once I attempted to close them.
Nasty. They could learn something from Google’s unobtrusive text based ads.

Media-convert is a site just like Zamzar, but without the obtrusive ads. They convert more file types than Zamzar. I use them for just any conversions I need to do.

In addition to my last post, http://www.youconvertit.com/ lets you convert files up to 300Mb in size, instead of media-convert’s 150Mb and zamzar’s 100Mb. It also lets you convert up to 5 files at once.

Outstanding list of tools. Especially Zamzar. I had forgotten about it and your list reacquainted me with the service. I was looking for something to change a pdf to a doc file for a client. The Zamzar application was just what the doctor ordered.

I use GuerrillaMail for temp email. I use XDrive for online storage(even though I despise AOL) it is an excellent tool it gives 5 Gb and has a per file limit of 2.5Gb compared to box.net it blows it away and there is a free client you can run on your machine that mounts the 5Gb as a network drive. Really quite impressed with it. I like and use most of the others too, nice list. Also instead of Trends housecall(used to use it) ESET has now made an online scanner on their site(as far as I, and most security sites, are concerned is the best AV). Thanks for the list.

I don’t mean to sound as if I have all the answers - but I found a FANTASTIC website that has techs that work with you on the phone to fix any PC issue FREE - not only that, but this website has a toolbar called “The Gadgetbar Toolbar” and it has most if not all of each and every link on this webpage and more!!!! I might even dare say that it even has links to other similar websites that have better free tests & scans than the ones that have been offered by everyone here… How they found all of this cool info - I don’t know… But the collection of helpful stuff they found and put into their toolbar is by far much greater / larger than the amount of things offered here on this page…. Like I said - I offer no offense in boasting that I have all the answers, but if so many of you really appreciate this web page for the few links it offers to other help websites - then you will definitely LOVE The Gadgetbar Toolbar AND the I.G. I just came upon this while using my Stumbleupon toolbar! As I read all of these posts and tried all of the links, I realized this was indeed a good idea…. But that last post by "Anonymous" really got me curious… The IG headquarters website really is pretty cool. I downloaded and installed the gadgetbar toolbar and even though I haven’t yet seen all of the links on this page inside the toolbar, I did see some so far - so perhaps it is for real. Gadgetbar definitely has a ton of free scans and stuff. I am running them on my other computer as I am typing on this one. I am also a strong believer in the Firefox browser. I won’t surf without it. Gadgetbar works for Firefox too, which is good! I see that even though it may be true that they have a lot more to offer than a few links, they also offer a gigantic database of free online streaming TV & Movies too! THAT IS MORE MY CUP OF TEA! Yeah, I like helpful links, free tests and scans - but my heart is into entertainment! One of the links I found in Gadgetbar is for PC Pitstop: http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp
There are really too many to mention and this one may already be a popular one.. The Gadgetbar and the site that created it have one thing in common with Emerging Techs: They both have a ton of helpful, free information!

I would like to recommend Mr Login. It’s a free online tool that stores passwords and login details, so you just need to remember only one password.

I really like yougetsignal and yousendit. Very useful applications, especially for advanced users. Yousendit should increase features for their free service, but anyway, its a fantastic service.
