Suggest you take a listen to this audio file rant, I am interested in other comments. Can you hurt somebody elses feelings?I think the basic idea is that we are all responsible for our own (and only our own feelings)If someone hurts you, say steps on your foot, you feel pain. We live in a cause and effect world, so it is easy to say "That person caused me pain"Pain as a sensation, generally only lasts for a small specific period of time. It comes in and it goes out. Emotions are really no different. They are like waves on the ocean. Imagine you are sitting on a boat on a windy day, the wave comes in pushes it's feelings upon you and then rolls out.Let's say someone unintentionally says something hurtful, even though it wasn't meant to be hurtful, your brain may still be sent a message, similar to pain, that causes you to experiance an initial "automatic" re-action.QUOTE An emotion, whether good or bad, or however you want to label it can only continue to exist (survive) within you as long as you continue to fuel itHowever, sometimes we choose to hold on to our feelings, perhaps re-living the event over and over in our minds. If it is a negative feeling we might tend to resent the person who orginally said (or did) something which unintentially caused the initial wave to start. As some point, though, it is us that continues to hold on and not let go. It is in our own minds that we create and generate the thought patterns that continue to emotion. It is our free will and not the actions of another.
